FAQ

Where does the data come from?+
All data comes from the NYC Department of Finance Rolling Sales files, which record every property sale across the 5 boroughs. This is public data updated monthly.
How current is the data?+
The Rolling Sales data covers approximately the last 12 months of actual property sales. It is updated monthly by the NYC Department of Finance.
Does this cover co-ops and condos?+
Yes. The data covers all property types including condos, co-ops, single-family homes, multi-family buildings, and mixed-use properties across all 5 boroughs.
Why are some sales excluded?+
Sales under $10,000 are filtered out as they typically represent ownership transfers between related parties, tax sales, or nominal-price transactions rather than arm's-length market sales.
What is the Mansion Tax?+
The Mansion Tax is a progressive transfer tax on NYC residential properties selling for $1 million or more. Rates range from 1% ($1M-$2M) up to 3.9% ($25M+). It is in addition to the standard NYC and NYS transfer taxes.
How is price per square foot calculated?+
Price per sq ft is calculated from the sale price divided by the gross square footage from DOF records. Note that some properties have 0 sqft recorded, in which case price per sqft is not available.
